The Beast from the East, winds that are more due east than the normal NE trade direction, has got a hold on Maui for the past week or more. The result is that it is windy and sailable but the easterly wind direction means that the winds are a bit offshore at Kanaha, Sprecks and Hookipa and super gusty and inconsistent. Conditions have been less than epic in my opinion each of the day’s I’ve ventured out on the water and the reports from most other people echo that sentiment on the days I haven’t made it to the beach. Current forecast looks like this easterly trend will be with us for a few more days, so more super gusty, inconsistent wind is the call.
The guys over at Epic Sessions seem to have a different opinion of the sailing lately. They’ve just released another video depicting the “epic winter here on Maui.” To be sure, we have had some really good wave days but the crappy wind lately is overshadowing that for me lately. Anyway, here’s their video:
Young Maui ripper Morgan Noireaux just uploaded a video of himself riding in January and February.

Hey Jeff, replying to your older post (which I just stumbled onto) with Robby’s RIP (Robby In Person) video. Yeah, still one of the best windsurfing videos/movies ever. Julia and I still watch it to get inspired. BTW – we copied our old VHS version onto DVD, which is definitely better res then the youTube version, in case you ever want to watch it that way.
