There was some great action from Hookipa last Thursday with big waves and big stars; Robby Naish, Kai Lenny and Mark Angulo showing off their new 2012 Naish sails along with Kauli Seadi, Levi Siver, and Keith Teboul. Here’s some video I caught in the afternoon. There’s been some debate about whether Robby’s tri-fin board is an asymmetrical set-up. What do you think? Anybody know the story on that? Looks like Kai is on the same board but fins look symmetrical on that one.

Trade winds have slacked off a bit yesterday and today. Kanaha is still closed due to the tsunami damage. They’ve got the whole road barricaded off after the first park entrance. No word from the County about when the park will be opened again.
Went to Baby Beach today and could see a couple of sails out slogging around at Sprecks and one biggish looking race sail planing. Could also see some sails and kites upwind at Lanes and Hookipa.
Wind should build a bit tomorrow and then Tuesday afternoon we should see the results of strong high pressure setting up shop to our north bringing us some nuclear conditions. Along with the big wind we’ve got some extra large surf on tap this week as well. Should be some pretty insane conditions.
Could be interesting if Kanaha doesn’t get opened up. I’m guessing the surf will get big enough to close out Hookipa. When that happens, most Hookipa folks head to Kanaha. If that’s not open … ?
