Light to moderate trade winds are what the forecasters keep calling the weather pattern we’re currently in here on Maui. Nothing extreme or very exciting going on here that’s for sure. In fact it was light enough most of last week that I didn’t even bother going down since the north shore has been extremely flat surf-wise. Wind picked up a bit midday on Friday. Nice sunny day on the water and the wind was pretty steady for my 5.3 session – though it dropped later. Only a small section of tiny surf breaking at Camp One – so mostly just cruising and back and forth sailing.
Light winds dominated the holiday weekend as well. Definitely enough wind to sail if you want it bad enough. Guys on mid-5s and bigger is what I’ve been hearing.
Biggest news I know about in recently is the new (at least new to me) Mama’s Beach Cam. Mama’s Fish House is well-known on Maui for its fantastic dining and the damage that those dinners can do on one’s wallet. Thanks to some friends on Facebook I learned about their new webcam that points upwind towards Hookipa. Correction: Looks like you can see the action at Hookipa. Cool! Nothing much to check out on the cam the last few days since it’s been so flat. Check it out and support their sponsors.
Looking into the future, it’s looking like more of the same conditions we’ve been having through most of this week. Winds may pick up later in the week. And as far as surf goes on the north shore, looks like flat conditions will continue as well.
Looking further into the future, if you’re going to be here this fall and want to take your windsurfing to a new level, check out the Aloha Windsurfing Clinics with Matt Pritchard and Shawna Cropas. These clinics offer something for everyone! Kick off some new aerial moves with Matt or concentrate on perfecting your carve jibes or harness work with Shawna. Check ‘em out and sign up fast, looks like positions are quickly filling up.
