Maui Windsurfing videos premiere on the Restaurant Entertainment Network this weekend.
I’ve been publishing windsurfing videos on this website since 2006. It’s always been a fun way for me to share Maui’s insane windsurfing action with the rest of the world. The windsurfing videos on this site are by far the most viewed content here. I’ve had up to 6,000 viewers per day when I post new windsurfing videos. That’s pretty cool, but I’ve often thought it would be really cool to get these videos in front of a broader audience, not just hard core windsurfers sitting at their desks at work cruising the web for new windsurfing content. And starting this weekend, they will be.
In early July I got an email from an account manager from IndoorDirect’s Restaurant Entertainment Network wondering if I’d be interested in having my windsurfing videos included in their programming. Are you kidding me! Of course!
So, over the past few weeks I’ve been choosing some videos to provide to them, re-editing and submitting the videos. The first video will air this weekend August 6 – 8 at restaurants nationwide.
The Restaurant Entertainment Network, provides three new one-hour shows per week featuring a mix of “bite-sized” music, sports and pop culture to thousands of quick-service and family dining restaurants nationwide reaching over 150 million viewers annually.
The shows, theBITE, and theBITE Weekend, feature hosted magazine-style short “bites” on sports, entertainment, music, lifestyle and children’s programs in 1 hour segments that loop.
So, are you going to be eating out in a fast food restaurant like Taco Bell, Arby’s, Denny’s or Wendy’s this weekend? If it’s a participating restaurant be sure to keep your eyes on the monitor for some windsurfing action from Hookipa. To find a participating location click here. When it’s over, stand up and cheer and tell everyone in the restaurant, “Yea! I’m a windsurfer! I do that!” (See the complete list of restaurants and locations below.)
If you’re not in one of these locations, you can still watch the show online.
None of these restaurants in Maui have the Restaurant Entertainment Network installed yet so I’ll be checking it out for sure. I’ve submitted several videos and I’m not sure which will premiere and it will be interesting to see what the hosts have to say before and after the video.
I thought the timing for this was perfect as I read Aaron Vieira’s article “Why We Need to Watch Windsurfing” in the August issue of Windsurfing Magazine (great article by the way Aaron). Aaron argues that sharing windsurfing videos with non-sailing friends is a great way to introduce more people to the sport, and I completely agree. He references the 52.7 foot back loop that Levi Siver threw at Hookipa on March 31st. I was at Hookipa that day and caught that backloop on film and it is in one of the first videos I’ve submitted, so that amazing feat will be aired to hundreds of thousands, if not millions of Americans in restaurants very soon. If not this weekend, then the next.

Hey, I was at Cici’s in Texas with my brother today and we caught your video. Awesome! My brother wants to know who the music was by. He really liked that song.
Hey Dominique. Cool! I’m not sure which video you saw though. I’ve uploaded a bunch to IndoorDirect. Not sure which one is playing when. Any way you could describe which video? Lots of big jumps would be the Extreme Hookipa video with the song Extreme Ways by Moby. Others might have song by Green Day, TeddyBears, Foo Fighers or Schwab.
Hey Dominique. Just caught the show online. That was “Extreme Ways” by Moby in that video.
