Back into normal summertime wind strength on Maui the last few days with 4.5 wind or stronger for me (185lbs) Sunday through today.
Got a chance to sail from one of the beach houses at Camp One on Sunday, powered up 4.5. Nice to be able to launch and just sail straight out to the break at Camp One. The break there was pretty decent on Sunday – chest or shoulder high at times, but very crowded as it’s about the only thing breaking on the north shore right now. Pretty much onshore type stuff with lots of backside riding opportunities. I opted to head a little further upwind to get away from the crowds.
Things got a bit more brutal yesterday with gustier wind and much choppier. Did the 4.5 again, but the 4.2 would have been better outside the break. Still some some fun backside surf at Camp One.
Things got even windier and gustier today. Sailed 4.2 sheeted out all the time. Pretty bumpy and choppy.
Sounds like winds should ease back a notch after Thursday to more moderate conditions and hold through the weekend.
