Back to super light winds here on Maui. We got some good wind on Thursday when seemingly every windsurfer on the island converged on Lowers Kanaha. I heard Hookipa was pretty trashy so most of the Hookipa regulars came to Kanaha as they tend to do when Hookipa gets to big and sloppy. The county parks department was working on the Uppers area of Kanaha and so it was closed so Lowers was packed.
Not wanting to be underpowered I rigged a 5.3. Wrong call. 4.7 would have been plenty. Lowers was a zoo so I powered up to Uppers where there were only about 3 or 4 of us. Waves were easily mast high but pretty bumpy and trashy – at least during the late afternoon session when I was out.
Now we’re back in light wind mode again. Another cold front is passing over us right now so it’s a gray and rainy morning on Maui.
