When the West Maui Mountains are cloudless like this, you probably won't be sailing.
December’s usually a light wind month on Maui and this year has been even lighter than normal. Finally got on the water for the first time this month yesterday afternoon – barely planing with a 5.7 a few times after a lot of pumping and bearing off. Still some fun-looking surf, but couldn’t really make it upwind to Uppers. Beautiful day on Maui though with bright sunshine and cloudless skies.
Similar set up today. Sunny and light. Wind came up to the mid-teens for an hour or two in the early afternoon. Not really enough. Forecast is bleak for any stronger wind in the next several days. In fact, all of next week is looking kind of light right now.
