Broken Wind Machine
Yet more light wind days on Maui to report. Aside from a couple of days when it was sailable in Kihei earlier this week, winds have been incredibly light, even for December. I probably made a mistake by not going to Kihei – I think it was Tuesday, but it looked so up and down, averaging near 30 at times and then dropping down below 20 within a half an hour, that I didn’t feel like it would be worth it. If anyone out there sailed Kihei earlier this week leave a comment with your report.
Now on Christmas Eve we’ve got another cold front about to hit us. Winds usually clock back around to trade winds once a cold front passes us, but this front it being forecast to stall and dissipate over Maui. So, not sure if we’ll get the forecast brief trades tomorrow or not.
Though the wind has been quiet, the surf continues to make the news here. Regular back to back large swells have been hitting Hawaii’s north shores and a new gigantic swell is due tonight and tomorrow – rivaling gigantic episode we had a couple of weeks ago when Jaws went off and the County closed down Hookipa. So, the surfers, SUPers and tow-in crowd should all be happy even if we windsurfers are getting scrooged. Long range forecast looks like a continuation of more light winds into next week too.

Yes Jeff, Tuesday was good in Kihei with about 20 sailors out. I was way over powered on 5.0 and 75 liters on the outside. 4.7 would have been good, Big guys were over powered on 5.3s Like most of the time, you were slogging to get out.
