Thanks to former super typhoon Choi-Wan, the north shores of Hawaii got yet another early season large north swell the last few days. This action is from the late afternoon session, once again starring Robby Naish, Levi Siver, Keith Teboul, Jason Diffin and is that Rush Randal on the green and blue Neil Pryde?

Yet another early season large swell arrived in Hawaii yesterday, bringing winter-like large surf to Maui in September. This is going to have to go down as an all time epic September for wave sailing on Maui.
This latest north swell had much more of a westerly component to it than the previous north swells we’ve [...]

After a few days hiatus, the wind came back to Maui yesterday. The first half of the week we saw pretty light winds, so light in fact that I doubt anyone got much planing time in anywhere, even Kihei unless they had ginormous gear.
But high pressure began to once again dominate our weather yesterday and [...]

Kind of a strange sailing day yesterday A new north swell arrived, but rain squalls throughout the day wreaked havoc with the wind at Kanaha. Timing was everything. Get out and get some during the half hour periods just before a squall. Then the squall would start hitting, winds would amp up another 5 to [...]

Here’s yet more video from recent action at Hookipa. This is from last Sunday when light winds at Hookipa had most windsurfers off of the water. Kai Lenny and Levi Siver were the only ones out for a bit and had to sail down at Lanes due to the surfer rule. In time the surfers [...]

Kai Lenny and Levi Siver prove that you don’t need big wind to go big on a light wind day at Hookipa on Sunday. Whose move is bigger? Levi’s ginormous wave 360 or Kai’s air taka (or is it a goiter)? Check out the video and you be the judge.
Light wind on Maui today. Looks [...]

Had enough photos and video of Hookipa yet? Hot off the heals of yesterday’s Goya video, here’s another video from Hookipa from Friday’s action, as well as a new batch of photos I shot yesterday at Hookipa of Levi Siver and Kai Lenny killing it. Hardly anyone else out in the super light conditions. Got [...]

Dominating the latest north shore swell at Hookipa the last several days were Team Goya –  Keith Teboul, Levi Siver and Laurent Guillemin - resplendent on their neon green 2010 Goya sails. No doubt about it, those sails show up really well on the water especially in the hands of such dynamic riders. Seemed only natural [...]

The waves got bigger and the wind got lighter on Maui’s north shore yesterday. I was dubious that we’d get enough wind at all, but watching the wind cams I could see people sailing so we headed to Kanaha to check it out.
Driving to Kanaha I could see the outer reefs breaking, a sure sign [...]

Wind is a bit on the light side this morning so I’ve had a chance to edit some more photos from Hookipa yesterday and start editing some video. Judging from my session at Uppers yesterday as well as my photo and video session from the bluff and rocks of Hookipa, the current swell wasn’t as [...]
