If you’ve been following my tweets you know that we’re still in a stagnant, no wind weather pattern here on Maui. Today’s been a little different with total cloud cover and lots of rain in areas, especially upcountry. More of the same stagnant, calm conditions through the weekend, but the latest forecast updates are showing some glimmers of hope of trade winds returning mid-week next week. The latest NWS forecast discussion says:
“MODERATE TRADE WINDS MAY RETURN TOWARDS THE MIDDLE OF NEXT WEEK…GFS/ECMWF/ENSEMBLES STILL LIKE THE IDEA OF TRADES COMING BACK TOWARDS THE MIDDLE OF NEXT WEEK. KEEP YOUR FINGERS CROSSED AND HOPEFULLY SOME RELIEF FROM THE MUGGY WX COMES SOONER THAN LATER.”
WindGuru, which shows the GFS weather model mentioned above, shows double-digit wind speeds coming back on Tuesday. Given that WindGuru’s numbers usually read on the low side, if that model holds, I think there’s a decent shot of strong enough wind for sailing on Tuesday. There’s even a bit of north swell predicted to hang in through Tuesday.
