Super strong winds with a lot of east component in them the last several days, meaning that the wind is a bit offshore, a bit light and gusty inside and howlingly strong once you make it out to the wind line and outside the reef. These conditions can be pretty gnarly with the offshore gusty wind creating bumpy, choppy, frothy water at Uppers and it can be pretty tough sometimes to get off the beach on the tiny gear that you need once outside the reef. I sailed both Saturday and Sunday on 4.5 and could have used a 4.2 a lot of that time. Waves at Uppers were pretty much a sloppy mess from the strong wind and wind swell. Not epic Maui windsurfing conditions, but the weather has been nice and warm and mostly sunny so it’s been good to get out. Similar windsurfing conditions Monday and today – super windy and bumpy – but a high workload along with the beastly conditions kept me off the water.
The weather forecast for the next few days is for continued wind, but the direction should shift around to a more normal direction according to the Hawaii weather forecasters.
