March Maui Mutants

Robby Naish wasn’t the only one ripping at Hookipa last week. Kevin Pritchard, Junko Nagoshi, Levi Siver, Kai Katchadorian, Keith Teboul were also on form and Mark Angulo was still trying his signature move “the mutant” including the best one I’ve personally captured on film yet. Special thanks to Reverb Galaxy for providing the music to this one. If you like surf guitar, check out their website and buy their new CD. Thanks Jeremy.

Maui weather continues its madness. A Kona low ushered in south strong south winds in Kihei yesterday and offering light offshore Kona conditions with some ginormous waves on the north shore. I got the report from Jazz yesterday morning at Hookipa that conditions were super light and very, very challenging. Kauli apparently made it out and Kevin Pritchard did as well, but he didn’t have a very good time.

This morning, Maui is in the path of a hose of moisture directing rain showers up from our south. Looks like we’ll be getting some pretty good rain for several more hours today. Wind forecast is looking pretty light today through about Wednesday. Looks like trade winds may return in the Thursday – Friday time frame.

By the way, if you’ve got a band and you’re trying to get heard and you think you’ve got some good music to go with windsurfing videos, contact me. No promises, but if I like your music and I think it would go well with some footage I’ve got, you might find yourself featured in a Maui windsurfing video. Last Thursday’s video of Robby Naish at Hookipa garnered 3,231 people coming to this site to watch it, with over 5,200 pageviews in just one day. Not bad if you’re looking to get noticed by the windsurfing world.
