Maui Windsurfing This Week

Sunday sailing was a lot like the previous few days, pretty strong and gusty. My 5.0 was about half a meter too big most of the time I was out in the mid-afternoon. Waves, still a bit sloppy and choppy.

Monday brought a little mellower conditions and the winds continued to mellow even more on Tuesday when 5.3 was barely enough to get me planing, but just not enough to get me up to Camp One where the best waves were. A new northwest swell was running but Lowers and lower Uppers just weren’t getting very big. 5.7 would have been the best choice to take advantage of the sets further upwind.

Yesterday the wind on the north shore continued the downward trend, with light onshore winds in the mid- to upper-teens most of the time. I stopped by to check it out, but not nearly windy enough for my biggest sail – 5.7. On the other side however, Kihei was cranking windy.
