Maui Kona Lanes Video 3

Judging from the deluge of traffic here, you guys must be digging the videos. Here’s the latest. Bigger, windier and wetter. Another day of gnarly Kona Lanes action, featuring Kevin Pritchard, Jason Polakow and Levi Siver.

The recent bout of Konas has blown itself out. Saturday brought relatively light north winds to Maui, meaning light onshore winds with huge surf still rolling in. Pretty tricky. Kihei normally gets the strongest winds when the direction is north, but it doesn’t look like it really cranked there even. My best guess is that the best action was over on the west side at S-turns where the north winds through the channel between Maui and Molokai can get amplified and the swell can be really good.
On to your Maui windurfing forecast. Today isn’t looking as promising as it was initially, but I’m still chalking it up as a possibility. Monday and Tuesday look pretty light. Mid-week is still looking probable. Quoting the National Weather Service forecst:
“STARTING WEDNESDAY…IT LOOKS AS IF WE MAY SEE A CHANGE IN THE LARGE SCALE PATTERN OVER THE NORTH PACIFIC. THE LOW PRESSURE THAT HAS BEEN DOMINATING THE GULF OF ALASKA WILL SHIFT NORTH…AND A SUBTROPICAL RIDGE WILL BUILD BETWEEN 30N AND 40N. THIS RIDGE WILL LIKELY MAINTAIN TRADE WINDS OVER THE ISLANDS THROUGH AT LEAST NEXT FRIDAY AND POSSIBLY LONGER.”
That plus more continued north swell. It’s going to be a good time to be on Maui if you’re a windsurfer.
